Christian Apologetics

1 Peter 3:14-15: “But even if you should suffer for righteousness' sake, you will be blessed. Have no fear of them, nor be troubled, but in your hearts honor Christ the Lord as holy, always being prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you; yet do it with gentleness and respect…”

Christian Apologetics is an intellectual approach to defending the Christian faith. This is accomplished utilizing the basic principle of following the data to the most logical conclusion. Are the Biblical texts reliable? Is Christianity inconsistent with science? The word ‘apologetics’ is from the Greek word ‘απολογια’, which means to “make a defense.” Apologetics does not convert souls. We don’t argue someone into the Christian faith, only the Holy Spirit converts hearts. But apologetics is useful when someone has intellectual barriers to Christianity which are technically inaccurate or uninformed.

In 2023, an apologetics overview was conducted at Prince of Peace. The series was recorded and uploaded to the YouTube channel AmarilloApologetics

Originally the outline for the course was not going to be posted to the website, but I will link it on this page for a limited time so people can download a copy. It has the advantage that the table of contents is linked, so clicking on an entry in the TOC will advance to the proper page in the document. If you download it, please read the preface.

Outline for course is here: Apologetics Outline (PDF) [2 MB]

There is a free online academy on the 1517.org website dealing with the subject of Christian Apologetics, taught by Dr. Adam Francisco:

Video Links for Creation versus Evolution

Below are two videos discussing how mathematically improbable it is for functional proteins to form by random chance, even given an immense amount of time. Note that both videos cite the total number of atoms in the universe as 10^64, where it is probably between 10^78 and 10^84. That doesn’t really do much damage to the argument.

Meyer

Segment of film “ORIGIN: Design, Chance and the First Life on Earth.”

Dr. Stephen C. Meyer discusses the “fine tuning” required to form the universe as we know it, in a manner that is stable and conducive to life.
